How to Increase Exit Velocity in Baseball

Exit velocity is the single most measurable output of a hitter. Learn what drives it, how to train it, and what realistic improvement timelines look like with Hittrax data.

What Is Exit Velocity?

Exit velocity is the speed of a baseball off the bat at the moment of contact, measured in miles per hour. A Hittrax system captures it on every swing, no estimation, no feel, no coach subjectivity. It is the most direct, objective measure of contact quality available.

Why Exit Velocity Matters

Harder contact produces outcomes. A 95 mph line drive stays in play; the same launch angle at 68 mph is a routine out. Exit velocity is the upstream variable that makes launch angle and spray chart data meaningful, without contact quality, the rest is noise.

What Actually Drives Exit Velocity

1. Rotational Power

The hip-to-shoulder connection is the engine of bat speed. 2. Bat Speed and Path Efficiency

Build the Rotational Base First
